The Traditional Group Term Life Insurance Plan has been in effect since 1977. New York Life Insurance Company (NY, NY 10010) is the underwriter for the Traditional Term Life, 10 Year Level Term, 20 Year Level Term, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability Income plans. The United States Life Insurance Company in the City of New York, a member company of American International Group, Inc., is the underwriter for the Excess Major Medical Program. New York Life has consistently received among the highest ratings for financial strength from the leading rating services: A.M. Best, Standard & Poors, Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch for financial strength. The A++ rating from A.M. Best reflects United State Life's superior overall financial strength and operating performance when compared to A.M. Best's standards. This is A.M. Best's highest rating.
Through its insurance brokerage and distribution resources Aon Consulting, a division of Aon Corporation (Chicago, IL) makes these insurance programs available for Alumni of Columbia University.
Described on the following pages are the many valuable features of these Insurance Programs. Alumni and where applicable their spouses and dependents, can apply for Group Insurance at competitive group rates. Physical exams are generally not required for most Insurance Programs (issuance of a Certificate of Insurance or payment of benefits may depend upon the answers given in the application and the truthfulness thereof) and no sales person will call or write. All services are provided to applicants and insureds through the Plan Administrator’s dedicated toll-free phone number (800-223-1147) and customer service staff.
